Stonecrop

2008 Pinot Noir

Martinborough has the lowest rainfall on the North Island, a cool climate and free draining gravelly soils, the perfect conditions for Stonecrop to produce top quality Pinot Noir. Classic Pinot Noir clones of Abel and Dijon 115 and 777 were planted to provide complexity to our wine, we keep our yields low and hand pick our grapes to ensure that only the best fruit is harvested. 2008 was one of the region's best, we had a hot and dry summer and a warm autumn resulting in an excellent vintage. The grapes were picked at 24 Brix at optimum maturity and the wine was matured for 8 months in French oak barrels (25% Cadus new oak).

Seductive aromas of soft plum, flavors of spiced black cherry and good balance with silky tannins.

Stonecrop 2008 Pinot Noir Rated No. 2 in The New York Times February 2010

Stonecrop 2008 Pinot Noir rated 91pts and Editor's Choice - Wine Enthusiast Magazine, June 2010

"A terrific Pinot Noir value, Stonecrop's 2008 exhibits smoky, cedary aromas, but balances the oak with a solid foundation of cherry fruit and savory, mushroomy complexity. It's full bodied yet elegant, with a meaty finish".
